About Our School

University High School is a college preparatory magnet school in the city of Newark, educating roughly 500 students in grades nine through twelve. Since inception in 1969, the main objective of University High School has been to prepare each student for college. We offer a rigorous humanities curriculum with opportunities for Advanced Placement, college in high school dual enrollment courses and college level courses that can lead to an Associate's Degree.

Unique Fact

At University High School, our scholars R.I.S.E. (Responsibility, Integrity, Service, and Excellence) everyday in every way! University High School houses the Thurgood Marshall Law Academy aimed at preparing future lawyers of tomorrow and the Phoenix Rising Teaching Academy which offers 30 college credits and an opportunity to graduate high school with a teacher contract to return to the Newark Board of Education upon completion of college.
